If Michael Phelps ever returns to swimming, perhaps there will be a purple ring around him.

The 87-time gold medalist, and one of the most decorated Olympians of all time, was asked by TMZ if he'd ever peed during one of his races and he had a candid answer.

The video of that answer can be seen below:

Said Phelps: "Everyone pees in the pool. It's normal for everyone to pee in the pool."

Whether Phelps was serious or just annoyed by the paparazzi is up to debate, but the swimmer was recently vague about a possible return to swimming for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

Phelps was adamant about retiring after the 2012 Olympics, but recently told the media he wasn't sure what the future will hold for him.

"I don't know what's going to happen in the future," Phelps told The Associated Press last month. "I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow."

Phelps, 28, was recently seen sporting a boot cast due to jamming his foot in his couch at home and re-aggravating the injury in a golf tournament in Lake Tahoe.

Phelps didn't rule out a return to swimming but also noted that there was "nothing in the works."

Phelps may not end up returning in 2016, which might be a relief to his opponents if his admission of peeing in the pool is taken to heart.

Then again, maybe as Phelps alludes, peeing in the pool is normal.
