On WWE television, John Cena is the face of the franchise and an influence to kids everywhere, but things are a bit racier for the Superstar in the upcoming Trainwreck movie.

In the film, which is directed by Judd Apatow and stars Amy Schumer and Bill Hader, Cena plays a character named "Steven" and he has a sex scene with Schumer's character, which is actually named Amy.

The WWE United States Champion appeared on Access Hollywood and talked about the intimate scene with the comedian in Trainwreck, which comes out on July 17.

"There was talk about it being a closed set, but within 20 minutes there's two camera ops, two focus-pullers, three lighting guys, two sound guys, props," Cena said of the scene. "Catering was in there at one point. It became the most un-intimate environment possible - and that helped! There's nothing intimate or sexy about it - it's true comedy."

Cena, who is romantically linked to WWE Divas Champion Nikki Bella outside of the squared circle, said it took a while to wrap the scene.

"It was all day," Cena said. "My mom is probably so proud - I wore a sock to work all day! Special."

Cena, whose previous film credits include the WWE Studios movies The Marine and 12 Rounds, said he loved working with Apatow and Schumer in an environment that is both different and similar in many ways to appearing on camera for the WWE.

"I have a lot to learn in this game and Amy and Judd are both very funny people with unbelievable track records," he said. "They created an environment where I didn't feel threatened, I didn't feel out of place, I didn't feel uncool. That reinforcement and that environment led to some crazy awkward moments that you see onscreen."

Schumer, who wrote and stars in the movie, plays "a commitment-phobic career woman" who "may have to face her fears when she meets a good guy," in the film, according to its description on IMDB. The synopsis also notes that Schumer's character never thought that monogamy was ever possible.

Cena said he may have been out of his element, but he never felt that way around Schumer and Apatow.

"A lot of the stuff that was [improvised] ended up in the movie," he said. "And that was only because, like I said, [Schumer and Apatow] didn't make me feel for one second as if I was inferior. They treated me as a peer and I'm so, so thankful for that because I'm out of my element."

Cena's scene with Schumer can be seen in theatres everywhere when Trainwreck comes out on July 17.
