Cleveland Indians fans got a little defensive Wednesday night when fans of the opposing Detroit Tigers started chanting in support of their team at the Tribe's home of Progressive Field.
During a 4-4 tie in top of the 9th inning, Tigers fans started a "Let's Go Tigers!" chant.
That did not sit well with the Indians faithful.
Cleveland fans responded to those chanting on the Tigers with a very mean-spirited "Detroit's bankrupt!" chant.
Fox Sports cameras picked up the very audible chants and put them on the air.
Detroit filed for bankruptcy protection in July, and the Cleveland Indian fans, armed with the knowledge of this, were quick to jab fans of their division rivals with the chant.
By the end of the game, it was the Tigers that were roaring with laughter as Prince Fielder's two-RBI double in the top of the 14th inning proved to be all the club needed to earn a 6-5 victory over the Indians Wednesday. The win notched the Tigers 11th straight victory, and the Tigers went on to beat Cleveland again Thursday by a score of 10-3 to finish off a four-game sweep, and now take a 12-game winning-streak into their weekend series against the Yankees in the Bronx.
With the sweep, the Tigers (68-45) now own a seven game lead over the Indians (62-53) in the American League Central.
While Indians fans laughed at the city of Detroit's expense Wednesday, the Tigers are currently the ones having all the fun.
