Russell Wilson has been a bit of an enigma during the offseason.

Most of questions about the Seattle Seahawks quarterback have revolved around his contract negotiations with franchise. But his new relationship with pop singer Ciara also has been getting a lot of attention.

Controversial Ciara video "angers" Russell Wilson

The latest bit of news comes from multiple media sites reporting about Wilson's comments on his physical relationship - or lack thereof - with his girlfriend.

Billboard.com was one of the outlets to post video of Wilson's conversation, recorded on video, with Mile McPherson, a San Diego pastor, on Sunday. During the conversation, the topic of Ciara came up, and Wilson testified a somewhat startling revelation about practicing abstinence for religious reasons.

Should the Seattle Seahawks dangle baseball as a carrot to re-sign Russell Wilson?

"She was on tour, and I was looking at her in the mirror, and God spoke to me," Wilson told the pastor. "He said, 'I need you to lead her.'

"I told her, 'What would you do if we took all that "extra stuff" off the table, and just did it Jesus' way?'"

Wilson confirmed that he was "talking about sex."

"Wilson said the 29-year-old singer 'completely agreed,' though he admitted that refraining from sex wasn't easy. 'I ain't gonna lie to y'all now -- I need you to pray for us,' he told the congregation. 'I know y'all have seen her on the screen. If there's a 10, she's a 15.'"

While Wilson's view certainly are admirable, critics then call into question reports that he wants to be the NFL's highest-paid player as coming off as greedy - a very un-Christian-like trait.

"Now, however, for the first time, the Wilson image is absorbing some serious puncture wounds. That's what happens when money and contract negotiations rear their ugly headlines," the Seattle Times said in a commentary.

"I've heard and read more Wilson backlash in the past three weeks than in the previous three years combined. When it came to throwing an interception on the decisive play of the Super Bowl, Wilson largely got away blame-free. But when a story leaked last week that he wanted to become the highest-paid player in the NFL, well, the notion of a greedy Wilson began to be put forth on talk shows and comment threads.

"I've even begun to hear some comparisons with Alex Rodriguez, which in these parts is the unkindest cut of all."

Wilson also recently posted a provocative photo of Ciara on his Instagram account, which would be construed as a departure of what is of Christian acceptance. Not to mention that he is divorced. So he'll have to tread lightly when addressing his Christian beliefs.
