New York Yankees designated hitter Alex Rodriguez wants to complete his road to redemption by being an All-Star.

5 Players Who Should Compete In MLB Home Run Derby

The slugger has participated in the Midsummer Classic on 14 different occasions, said he "dreams" of making appearance No. 15 this year at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.

Rodriguez, 40, missed all of the 2014 season due to his suspension for his connection to the Biogenesis clinic and performance-enhancing drugs and came into 2015 on the heels of two major hip surgeries, but he is worthy of consideration.

Projecting who Should Start For American League In All-Star Game

A-Rod said he would love the honor of suiting up for the American League on July 14.

"From where I came from just a year ago, I mean it's every player's dream to make the All-Star Game," Rodriguez said, according to ESPN. "I'm not exception to that. Especially with all that I've been through, to be able to be included in something like that, it would be incredibly special."

Rodriguez is hitting .280 with 15 homers and 39 RBI thus far on the season, ranking second on the team in batting average and third in long-balls and runs batted in. He leads all designated hitters in the AL with a .381 on-base percentage and a .887 OPS.

He's part of the reason that New York has stayed afloat in the competitive, yet mediocre American League East this season. The Yankees (42-37) are tied with the Baltimore Orioles (42-37) atop the division while the Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays follow closely behind with identical 42-39 records, putting them each a game back.

While A-Rod would probably like to start, he has stiff competition with sluggers like Nelson Cruz, Miguel Cabrera and Edwin Encarnacion all vying for spots.

After missing an entire season, Rodriguez has flourished in 2015 and he could suit up as an All-Star for the 15th time in his career at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
