New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez’s love/hate relationship with the team’s fan base hit a new low earlier today when a fan tweeted he hopes the beleaguered signal-caller suffers a torn ACL.

Just days after fans relentlessly booed him during a training camp practice, Sanchez felt compelled to respond to his latest critic who in anticipation of the team’s preseason opener posted “Mark Sanchez F**k you. Hope you tear your ACL on Friday.”

“Thanks for your support man. #classy RT,” Sanchez tweeted in response.

Still, the hits keep on coming. Earlier this week, former Jets teammate and current Detroit Lions receiver Chaz Schilens ripped Sanchez by telling the media of his former quarterback “nothing good to say, so I’m not going to say nothing.”

He then launched into a tirade where he added "really, when it came down to it, I kind of felt like they were looking for scapegoats and besides everyone except for, you know, maybe the quarterback position, and it was what it was. When free agency didn’t start off right away, I just kind of understood what it was and part of the business."

Since being drafted with the fifth pick overall in the 2009 draft and assuming the starter’s role, Sanchez has thrown for just an average of 3,000 yards per season and last year his touchdown throws decreased to just 13, half of the 26 he had the season before.

The Jets drafted Geno Smith in this year’s draft and he is expected to compete with Sanchez throughout training camp for this year’s starter’s role.
