LeBron James Jury Duty: NBA MVP Not Selected For Any Cases, Could Return Friday

LeBron James was sent home from jury duty selection in Akron, Ohio early Thursday after not being chosen to serve on any panels.

The NBA’s reigning MVP showed up at the Summit County courthouse early Thursday morning intent on fulfilling his civic obligation. Earlier in the day, James sent out a photo on Instagram with the caption: “Jury duty time. Time to serve civic duty."

According to the Akron Beacon Journal, James, who is spending the NBA off season in his hometown, will be required to return for possible service again on Friday. On Thursday, the newspaper reports the two time NBA champ came well-prepared, bringing a book with him to read during all the potential down time.

In 2009, the state of Ohio moved to a system where they no longer compensate jurors, but that shouldn’t be an issue for James, recently named fourth on the Forbes’ list of top earning athletes in 2013 with income of $59.8 million.

According the magazine, James made $17 million in salary with the Miami Heat and another $42 million from endorsements with the likes of Nike, McDonald’s Coca-Cola and Samsung.

It’s proving to be an off season the likes of few others for the 27-year-old James, who later this summer is slated to marry longtime girlfriend Savannah Brinson, the mother of his two young children.
