Adrien "The Problem" Broner's future as a pay-per-view star is in serious doubt following a June 16 loss to Shawn Porter on primetime television. It was Broner's second career defeat, and for the second time he looked ineffectual against a name opponent.

Broner, who considers himself a protégé of Floyd Mayweather Jr., was on the receiving end of a media tongue-lashing from Mayweather's father and trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr.

"He's not no top ranked fighter in the rankings. He held all night. Broner looked like nothing. All that grabbing and holding. With all that stuff he does...the women...the drinking...all that stuff. He's not going to do nothing. He looked like a bum. First, he needs to learn how to fight. If he wants to learn how to fight, he needs to come see me, or else forget it. Done." Mayweather Sr. said.

The comments could lead to a falling out between Mayweather and Broner, because Broner's trainer Mike Stafford let off a couple of verbal rounds in response.

"What Floyd Sr. is doing is he's an opportunist living off his son, saying he's the best off his son. He don't know nothing about developing talent, someone else's son. You've got to be loving, caring, go the extra mile.

"He has guys coming to his gym, coming off the bus to him, I might have to go pick a guy up. I go into the hood, there are guns. Drug dealers, crackheads...they have guns out, they see me and go 'Oh it's Coach Mike.' Late at night, early in the morning. Mayweather Sr., he should be worried about Mickey Bey," Stafford said.

The question of Broner's need for a new trainer has become a topic of conversation. While he became a three-division champion before the age of 25 with Stafford in his corner, Broner has hit a ceiling. He continues to outclass B-level fighters such as Emmanuel Taylor and John Molina, but against championship-caliber pressure fighters Broner has shown an inability to adjust his game plan, or time his opponents. He has also failed to establish a jab in these fights to control distance; against Marcos Maidana in 2013, Broner was very effective at a distance thanks to his hand speed, and that came up again when he bested Molina earlier this year.
