Floyd Mayweather Jr. is still without an opponent for his next fight, which will presumably be September 12. Despite Shawn Porter soundly defeating Adrien Broner, Mayweather's protégé, while fighting at a catch weight three pounds below the welterweight limit he is not an option for that bout according to Mayweather.

Porter's father and trainer Kenny Porter thinks he knows the reason for that. "Floyd doesn't want nothing with us and I fully understand. Floyd would never fight a young, black African American in his prime.

"He never has. He doesn't have any on his fight record. He would have never stepped to Sugar Shane Mosley when Sugar Shane was 25, 26 years old. He never would have fought Oscar De La Hoya in his prime. Andre Berto in his prime, Paul Williams; I can name them, all down the line. Floyd picks who he wants to fight and he already said he doesn't want nothing to do with Shawn."

The last fighter to defeat Broner, Marcos Maidana, received not one but two fights vs. Mayweather. Porter doesn't have Maidana's punching power, but he fights a similar, swarming style and that pressure gave Mayweather fits in his first go-round with Maidana. That could play into why Mayweather isn't interested in a Porter fight.

Mayweather's reluctance may also have to do with Porter's low profile outside of the hardcore boxing fan base, but that excuse will not fly if Mayweather chooses to fight Andre Berto or Karim Mayfield, both of whom are his only choices according to what he has told the media.

Amir Khan is believed to be the frontrunner for a Mayweather fight, but so far there's been radio silence from Mayweather's camp, while Khan continues to egg them on.
