It had been rumored that Daniel Bryan's latest injury setback had to do with his previous neck ailment, but he's actually sidelined with a career-threatening concussion.

According to The Wrestling Observer, Bryan's injury doesn't stem from his neck or from WrestleMania 31, but rather it is from a head injury he sustained on the SmackDown after the Show of Shows during a match with Sheamus.

Per the report, many people backstage have known about the concussion for a long time, even as far back as when Bryan was sent home from the European tour slightly after WrestleMania.

Sheamus vs. Randy Orton Match Rumored For Battleground

The WWE has downplayed the fact that it is a concussion and there are rumors that the company is trying to keep serious head injuries under wraps, but that could just be merely speculation.

Bryan's issues are considered career-threatening, and it's unknown if and when he'll ever be able to return to the squared circle.

WWE Hall of Famer Bret "Hitman" Hart recently weighed in on Bryan's situation and said he believed that he'll never wrestle again.

"Daniel Bryan is finished. He'll never wrestle again," Hart told Sports Illustrated earlier this month. "I don't think he knows it yet. I feel terrible about Daniel Bryan. For all intents and purposes, he had the exact same thing happen to him that happened to me after Bill Goldberg kicked me in the head. One day, you learn it's over. Doctors tell you that you can't wrestle and you'll never wrestle again. I lost millions of dollars because of that. I pray that it's not the same for Daniel Bryan."

Bryan won a seven-man Ladder Match at WrestleMania 31 on March 29 at Levi's Stadium in California to win the Intercontinental Championship in a victory that was combined with John Cena's triumph of the United States Championship in a movement to make the midcard belts mean more in the WWE.

The Beard then had to forfeit a major championship following WrestleMania for the second straight year as he won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XXX in a Triple Threat Match with Batista and Randy Orton and then had to relinquish the title due to a neck injury.

Bryan missed the rest of 2014 due to losing strength in his arm following the procedure and returned in January of this year.

Now, it's unknown if he'll ever be back.
