Seth Rollins vs. Triple H has been heavily rumored to take place at SummerSlam on Aug. 23 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and that could be a great thing.
Details Behind Sting's WWE DVD Release Revealed
It's unknown where the road will take the WWE storylines over the next two months, but the seeds have certainly been planted for a clash between The Architect and The Game as Rollins has used the Pedigree in recent months and has tried to do things on his own, without The Authority.
The matter potential rift between the two was exacerbated two weeks ago when The Authority brought back Brock Lesnar to be Rollins' opponent at Battleground for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on July 19 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
While The Architect may not carry the richest prize in the game with him into SummerSlam, here are three reasons why this match is best for business.
Building The Architect
Rollins became the de facto top heel in Lesnar's absence during stretches over the past year.
His rise stemmed from The Shield's split last summer and stretched to WrestleMania this year, culminating in his crowning achievement of WWE World Heavyweight Championship gold at WrestleMania 31.
While The Architect has been on top for quite some time now, not everyone has been sold on his title reign as he's been booked to need a lot of help to win matches.
The WWE could remedy that stigma by having him face a legend in Triple H and elevate him by having him defeat The Game cleanly at SummerSlam.
Whether or not he has the title heading into that potential battle remains to be seen, but a win over Triple H would do wonders for The Architect.
The Teacher vs. The Student
The WWE has a perfect storyline here as Triple H has helped mold Rollins into who he is today, beginning with that fateful Monday Night RAW last June when Rollins turned on Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns to join The Authority.
Since then, Rollins has grown under the guidance of Triple H in kayfabe and has skyrocketed to the top of the roster. Rollins' continued use of The Pedigree (R.I.P. Curb Stomp) has only added to this mentor-understudy type of dynamic that they have built.
It's uncertain how the WWE will want to go with this as far as alignments are concerned, but the storyline of the mentor vs. the protégé can play out with either man being heel.
Triple H could become so fed up with Rollins that he tries every under-handed thing in the book to get the title off of him, turning The Architect into a sympathetic figure. When all else fails, The Game could then throw himself into a match to do the job that no one else can by trying to take the title from Rollins.
Or, Triple H could turn face by getting fed up with his spoiled student and look to teach him a lesson.
It's a tough call as to which will work better since Triple H and Stephanie McMahon have been the main heel faction for two years now and Rollins has built a lot of momentum as a villain, but a Rollins face turn could lead to a part-time Shield reunion.
The belt may not be involved at all, so it could simply stem from Rollins blaming The Authority for putting him in a match against Lesnar at Battleground.
Stealing The Summer Show
Beyond the storyline implications and Rollins' potential to be elevated by such a match, the bout itself has the opportunity to be a fantastic five-star contest work-rate wise.
Rollins has already shown that he has the goods to go up against anybody, and he's been in a Match of the Year candidate already at the Royal Rumble this year when he faced John Cena and Lesnar in a Triple Threat Match.
Rollins' fast-paced offense against Triple H's ground-and-pound style would be a great dynamic.
Triple H has had several memorable matches in his illustrious career and showed in his WrestleMania 31 clash with Sting that he can still offer up a great battle and tell a solid story when he needs to.
The Architect vs. The Game could very well steal the show at SummerSlam.
