NXT Champion Kevin Owens has made it clear that he wants the WWE United States Championship that is currently in the possession of John Cena.

Owens sat down for the weekly interview with Michael Cole and toward the end of it he said that he may not have wanted the U.S. Championship in the beginning of his feud with the Cenation leader, but now he does.

"When this whole thing with John started, I said it wasn't about the U.S. Title and it really wasn't," Owens said. "But after he stood in that ring and disrespected me the way he did, telling me, 'You belong here,' I think I wanna take his most prized possession and that's the United States Championship. I know I said I didn't want it at first, but people change their mind all the time and now I want it and I'm gonna take it."

Earlier in the interview, Cole brought up Owens hurting rapper Machine Gun Kelly on Monday Night RAW this week and also discussed the "apology" tweet he sent out at The Authority's request.

"It is what it is," Owens said. "I got carried away. I said I'd like to apologize, I sent the tweet out and that's it. That's where I stand. Why did he walk out on stage in the first place? I know he was a guest, ya know, but he was a guest because his people contacted WWE because they were coming to Cleveland and he wanted to take part in the show because he wanted to be a hero. Now who does that remind you of? [Referencing John Cena]. You see Machine Gun Kelly doesn't belong on RAW. He doesn't, I do. Now, I know that not because John Cena told me that at Money in the Bank in front of everyone, but I know that because I felt that way since I was born."

Owens then got mad when Cole said he should be happy that Cena congratulated him after their great Money in the Bank match, which saw Cena defeat him this past Sunday.

"You are not me, you and I are very different people," Owens said. "And let me make something clear, as nice as that is -- what you just said about the match being great -- I don't need you to tell me it was great, just like I don't need John Cena to tell me it was great because I know it was great. Because I've been having great matches for 15 years. And I was proud of John Cena saying he respects me, but I was proud of that when he told me that the first time we met back in February backstage when I was just at RAW seeing how things worked. That meant a lot to me. But Sunday night, after that match with everyone, that wasn't John Cena trying to be nice. That wasn't John Cena trying to make amends. That wasn't John Cena trying to show me respect. Again, that was John Cena hogging the spotlight. And I see through that."

Lastly, Cole said Owens should be proud of winning his first WWE match against Cena, which struck a chord with the NXT Champion.

"That right there is a great example," Owens said. "You say my first match in WWE, I've been defending the NXT Title with pride for several months now. Is NXT not a part of WWE, because I'm pretty sure last time I checked it is. When I signed my contract with this company it didn't say I was singing to NXT, it said I was signing to WWE. I won that title and I considered myself a part of the WWE and I have and I've been defending it like that. And people need to stop downgrading that."
