The Green Bay Packers are eyeing former Pro Bowl quarterback Vince Young as a potential backup to Aaron Rodgers and will work him out later today, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

Young, now 30, hasn’t played in the NFL since 2011 and just last month a Houston judge ordered him to auction off more than $1.7 million of his possessions to pay off a stream of creditors.

The Packers currently have unprovens Graham Harrell, 28, and B.J. Coleman, 24, in camp as possible backups to Rodgers, neither of whom has much live game NFL experience.

Over six NFL seasons with Tennessee and Philadelphia, Young started 50 of 60 games he played in, completing 58 percent of his passes for 8,964 yards and 46 touchdowns. He was named AFC offensive rookie of the year in 2006. A dual threat, Young has also run for 1,459 yards and 12 scores.

According to the Press-Gazette, the Packers have been adamant throughout the offseason about finding an answer for the read-option offense that greatly confused them in January's 45-31 loss to San Francisco in the NFC divisional playoffs. The organization went as far as to send its defensive staff to Texas A&M, home of Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Johnny Manziel, to compare notes on defending against the offense.

In Young, the organization is hoping they might have a quality scout against the offense in anticipation of their Sept. 8 season-opening rematch with the 49ers and quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
