June Steenkamp is angry over Oscar Pistoirius' release to house arrest, just 10 months after being imprisoned in the shooting death of her daughter Reeva.

The Daily Mail, however, reports that the double-amputee Olympic sprinter has thousands of supporters.

Oscar Pistorius has been granted his release to house arrest in August, despite pleas from Reeva Steenkamp's parents

"His army of, mostly female, fans - known as 'the Pistorians' - have backed him unconditionally since his arrest over the death of his girlfriend, inundating the sprinter with cards, photographs and letters during his incarceration in a South African jail for manslaughter," the Daily Mail reported.

Pistorius is serving a five-year culpable homicide sentence for shooting Steenkamp four times through the bathroom door at his then-Pretoria, South Africa home in the early morning hours of Valentine's Day, 2013.

June Steenkamp doesn't think 10 months in prison is enough time for Oscar Pistorius for blowing her daughter's brains out

He maintains he mistook her for an intruder in his home, even though he thought she was in bed next to him. His public trial has not scared away a portion of his fans. He is scheduled to be released Aug. 21 after serving one-sixth of his sentence.

Prosecutors will appeal his sentence and go before the South Africa Court of Appeals to seek a murder conviction. The Mail reported that the case will take place some three months after Pistorius' release. If convicted of murder, Pistorius could face a minimum of 15 years in prison.

One of Pistorius' relatives revealed to MailOnline that he has received a "deluge" of messages from women who want to reach the "Blade Runner."

"A lot of the family have also had similar requests," the relative said. "I understand that he has had sacks of letters, photographs and cards since he was sentenced last year.

"It seems the news that he will be out soon has prompted even greater interest. I read a few of them, but really there are so many.

"Oscar is getting even more attention now than ever before."

The Mail interviewed three of the women who have shown their support publicly for Pistorius:

"Coby Mountain, who tweets messages of support for Pistorius, said she hopes the athlete will now have a chance to move on with his life," the Mail reported.

"She told MailOnline: 'I am really glad for his release. It should never have happened in the first place... lack of evidence.

"'Hopefully he will be able to get on with his life now and when it goes to appeal they will see it for what it is and let him walk free and get on with his life as best he can.'

"Another supporter, Hilda Bauren, added: 'l'm happy for him because l think he is innocent.'

"(Mira Teuber, a German) who runs a Support for Oscar Pistorius Facebook page, a group which has been liked by more than 2,000 people and holds Sunday prayers for the athlete, said: 'I'm happy, obviously, that Oscar is being released to house arrest.

" 'I'm pleased for him. I do believe he acted far too hastily and I do believe he accepted his punishment but I feel whether he is incarcerated or released on house arrest, he will never live the life he had and will always have to live with this.'"
