Amir Khan believes he is the only fighter capable of defeating Floyd Mayweather Jr. and ruining his perfect record. He also believes he is the best choice for Mayweather's next fight based on his large fan base-nicknamed "Khan's Army-and the various parts of the world he can introduce to Mayweather's fights.

Fellow British boxer Carl Froch, a former super middleweight champion, doesn't agree with Khan's assessment of his chances vs. "Money" Mayweather though.

"I don't think he's good enough," Froch said. "I don't think there's anybody out there who is. That's no disrespect to Amir Khan but when he steps up, he gets beaten. People think I'm having a go at him, but I'm not.

"You can't put somebody like Khan, who's been beaten by three people, up against Mayweather."

Recent history raises doubts about Khan's claims, and gives credence to Froch's analysis. Khan fought Chris Algieri on May 26 in what many expected to be a showcase that puts the final touch on his bid to fight Mayweather. Instead, Algieri gave Khan big problems by walking him down and hitting him with hard, looping right hands. Khan was wobbled more than once against the light-hitting Algieri, who was knocked down six times when he fought Manny Pacquiao.

Khan has since been imploring fans to ignore his performance vs. Algieri-which did result in a victory and several impressive moments-and promised a different Khan if and when he fights Mayweather. He hinted that overtraining led to him looking sluggish, and that more brawling will be involved in the future.

"I need to go back to being the old Amir Khan. All my career I've trusted my trainers and I've done everything the way they ask. But it's time to remember that it was my free flowing ability which got me to two world titles and now to the brink of a super-fight with Mayweather," Khan said.
