San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is supposed to talk about improvement, but in doing so during his latest interview took an inadvertent shot at the Jim Harbaugh regime.
SB Nation transcribed an interview session Kaepernick conducted with media before a Niners minicamp practice earlier in the week. During the session, he talked about how he felt the offense underachieved in 2014 and that he felt he needed to do more.
49ers best served by listening to offers to unload Colin Kaepernick?
That talk was fine, but then he brought his new coaching staff into the conversion, leading to the presumption of deficiency by the former offensive staff under Harbaugh.
When asked to elaborate on what he meant by "needing to do more," Kaepernick said, "We did leave a lot out there last year, but I don't think it's a situation where we have to press. It's being able to execute the plays that are called and execute them more efficiently. I think with our new offensive coordinator, with our new quarterback coach, we've cleaned a lot of things up and made it more comfortable and friendly for players to be able to go out and make plays."

Asked to go into more detail about "cleaning up," the quarterback said, "Whether it's how we're running routes. The combinations we're running. The precision of running. Things like that where we put players in a better position to be able to make plays, to be able to use their athletic ability."
The follow-up question of asking whether Kaepernick felt the offense under Jim Harbaugh's staff failed to take advantage of the unit's athletic ability - by scheme or by strategy - never was asked.
ESPN recently speculated that the new coaching staff seriously consider trading Kaepernick for the right price in return to give a franchise it deems no longer among the NFL's elite teams a fresh start.
Kaepernick remains unaffected by all the external talk.
"No. I don't think there's more pressure," he told reporters. "Very comfortable with where we're at and how we're working right now. Very excited about the season and what we're going to be able to do."
