The New York Knicks have barred oft-injured forward Amar’e Stoudemire from working out with Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon this summer.
Instead of perfecting the “The Dream Shake’’ move made famous by Olajuwon, the Knicks have instructed Stoudemire to rest his cranky knees, according to the New York Post. Team officials insist the fact Olajuwon is slated to soon formally join the Houston Rockets coaching staff as Dwight Howard and Omer Asik’s personal tutor had no effect on their decision.
Stoudemire had planned to return to Texas to refine the post moves he learned last summer and the Rockets have agreed to allow Olajuwon to fulfill any prior commitments with opposing players this month before he exclusively works for the team.
Fellow Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony is also listed among those scheduled to take part in Olajuwon’s Big Man camp later this summer. With Stoudemire still owed more than $100 million on his contract, the Knicks are taking a caution-filled approach in seeking to maximize the benefits of their investment.
According to The Post, team medical director Lisa Callahan has already discussed putting Stoudemire on a 20-minute per game restriction with the added possibility of him not playing in back-to-back games.
Stoudemire played in just 29 regular season games last season, averaging 14 points and five rebounds.
