CM Punk may be done with wrestling, but he apparently still recognizes and appreciates the past, most notably his first reign as WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Punk won the Money in the Bank Ladder Match at WrestleMania XXIV in 2008 and pinned Hall of Famer Edge in June of that year to win the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time in his career.

Punk won the gold on June 30, 2008, after Batista attacked Edge on Monday Night RAW and The Best in the World used the opportunity to cash-in his briefcase and defeated Edge, who won the inaugural Money in the Bank Ladder Match at WrestleMania 21 (2005), to win the title.

Ahead of this year's Money in the Bank event, a fan contacted Punk on Twitter to celebrate him winning the World Heavyweight Championship six years ago to the day on Monday.

The fan was actually incorrect, as Punk won the gold on June 30, not June 8, and 2008 was seven years ago, not six.

Nevertheless, Punk gave Edge a shout out on Twitter for putting him over back then and also gave some props to JBL while taking a dig at other stars during that time.

Punk rarely discusses wrestling these days and has admitted that he doesn't watch in anymore ever since he walked out on the WWE in January 2014 on the day after the Royal Rumble.

Punk revealed on Colt Cabana's podcast last November that creative differences and him allegedly being asked to work hurt repeatedly led to his departure.

The former Superstar also took aim at WWE's doctor Chris Amann and said he misdiagnosed him on several occasions, including a concussion he claimed to suffer at the Royal Rumble, which was the last straw.

Former Diva AJ Lee, who is married to Punk, remained with the WWE until Amann filed a defamation lawsuit against her husband, which led to her retiring from the company shortly after WrestleMania 31 in March.

Punk joined UFC last December and is training for his first fight in the Octagon, which is tentatively slated for later this year.

While Punk has gone on record as saying he will "never" wrestle or have a working relationship with the WWE again, it's always nice to see him acknowledge his past in the squared circle.
