Tonight at 7:10 p.m. ET, the Los Angeles Angels (28-29) and Tampa Bay Rays (31-27) open up a three-game series live from Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay.

Los Angeles continues a six-game road trip looking to halt a losing streak of five consecutive contests while Tampa Bay begins an eight-match homestand having won five of their last six games.

The Angels were swept in three games against the Yankees in New York over the weekend while Tampa Bay took three out of four from the Mariners in Seattle to end their last road swing.

Matt Shoemaker (3-4, 5.08 ERA) takes the mound for Los Angeles while Tampa Bay counters with Nate Karns and he is 3-2 with a 3.63 ERA thus far this season.

Shoemaker is pitching on eight days rest after limiting the Detroit Tigers to two runs (one earned) on four hits in 5.1 innings in a game where he also walked three batters.

Karns faced the Angels in his last outing and served up two homers while allowing four earned runs in five innings. Karns is also fourth in the American League with a .212 average allowed this season.

Tampa Bay took two of three from Los Angeles last week.

Both of these pitchers go up against rough offenses as both teams are in the bottom five in the American League in runs scored this season.

While the Angels have struggled to score, the team boasts two players with the ability to launch the long ball.

Outfielder Mike Trout is tied for third in the AL with 16 homers while first baseman Albert Pujols places fourth with 15 round-trippers. Trout is also second in the AL in runs (42) and fourth in total bases (119) and slugging percentage (.561).

The Rays counter with a lineup that is led by rookie Steven Souza Jr., who has a team-best 11 homers and is tied with Logan Forsythe for the club lead with 26 RBI.

Tampa Bay enters this game is second place in the AL East, 1.5 games behind the first-place Yankees while the Angels sit in third place in the AL West, five games behind the division-leading Houston Astros.
