LeBron James Running For President Of NBA Players Union? Four Time MVP Seriously Considering Bid To Replace Derek Fisher

LeBron James, the king of the basketball universe, could soon be taking his talents to the meeting rooms according to reports.

Some sources are saying "King" James is considering a run at the presidency of the NBA Players Association, seeking to assume the role that Derek Fisher has most recently played at the bargaining table. Fisher's contract expires this year.

A source close to LeBron said, "It's a very important position for where things are going." The source also said LeBron is giving the possibility "some very heavy thought."

James has already dipped his toe into NBA politics. He was present for several of the meetings between the NBA and the players association, and has a close relationship with Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul, who is the current vice president.

He has also called for reform of the players association in the past; executive director Billy Hunter was deposed earlier this year and accused of not only mismanaging union funds, but channeling them to his friends and family members. Hunter has since sued both Fisher and the players union.

The main issue with a candidacy for James would be time constraints. In addition to yearly playoff runs going deep into the summer, James also has a bevy of commitments to both charities and off-the-court sponsors.

Also, he trains very hard each offseason to remain in peak condition for his normally long seasons. For three straight years James and the Heat have reached the NBA Finals, the most recent series reaching seven games.

James is a two-time NBA Finals MVP and four-time league MVP. His reputation repair is also nearly complete; the vitriol surrounding his public departure from home-state Cleveland Cavaliers has been replaced once again by adulation. In fact, recent polls showed James to have surpassed Kobe Bryant of the Lakers as the NBA's most popular player.
