O.J. Simpson Wins Parole On Charges from 2008 Las Vegas Robbery Case, Remains Jailed On Separate Sentence

The Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners released an order granting O.J. Simpson parole Wednesday for some of the charges from 2008 when he was convicted of kidnapping and armed robbery for holding up two sports memorabilia dealers at a Las Vegas motel.

Simpson, a former player for the NFL, has been fighting for his freedom since his conviction and gained a small sign of hope Wednesday.

Though Simpson was granted parole on some of the charges, he will not be leaving Lovelock Correctional Center because some of the charges he was convicted of still stand. Simpson will remain locked up for at least four more years due to the fact that he had multiple charges that were ruled to run consecutively.

Simpson has had no disciplinary action against him since being jailed, and appeared before a two-member panel to plead his case for parole. Simpson, who played in the NFL from 1969-79 and is a five-time Pro Bowler, attempted to convince the board he regretted his actions and that he has been a model inmate, not causing any trouble while spending time at the facility. The Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners explained that Simpson has a "positive institutional record" to explain the reasoning for the order.

In 2007, Simpson and a group of men went into the hotel in Las Vegas and held two men at gunpoint and stole sports memorabilia from them. Simpson said the items had been stolen from him and were his property, and he was trying to get them back.

Simpson's parole will be effective on Oct. 2 and then he will begin serving a term for using a weapon during the robbery. Following that term, Simpson will then serve two consecutive sentences for assault with a deadly weapon.

Simpson has quite a past with legal troubles, most notably for being put on trial for the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in Los Angeles in 1994.Simpson was eventually acquitted of the charges.
