War Story won't be running in the 2015 Belmont Stakes, but the same can no longer be said for The Truth or Else.
Trainer Kenny McPeek, who once before upset a Triple Crown bid in 2002, announced the horse will likely take place in the $1.5 million running at Belmont Park. The Truth or Else is coming off a 1 1/2-length, the same length as the Belmont Stakes, allowance victory over the local track on May 22. According to McPeek, it was a major deciding factor in his decision.
"My horse loves the Belmont track," said McPeek (via Bloodhorse). "He has two starts and two wins on a dry track at Belmont and he's out of a Colonial Affair mare, so he should get the distance. His last race was a confidence-builder. He got a good time and an excellent speed figure. His last two races have set him up for this. He really needed to win his last race, which he did."
Trying to repeat the success of Savara in 2002, McPeek believes his current horse is incomparable and capable of duplicating history.
"The Truth or Else is bigger and stronger than both Sarava and Atigun," he added. "He's just a really solid horse."
"Weird things happen in the Belmont. You shouldn't duck one horse in a race. American Pharoah could possibly not handle the surface. You don't know. So long as it's a dry track, we'll pull the trigger."
Below are the updated odds for the remaining horses from Wynn Las Vegas (via the Courier Journal). The Truth or Else's odds will not be available until an official announcement.
