Even though second-year quarterback Johnny Manziel is one of the NFL's most potent lightning rods, there will be no quarterback controversy in Cleveland.

That's because the Browns are not even giving the 2014 first round pick a chance to compete for the starting position after the debacle his rookie season became. The Browns inked veteran Josh McCown this offseason to a three-year, $14 million contract and intend to utilize him.

McCown is getting all the first-team reps in OTAs according to ESPN Cleveland, and McCown's words have been music to the coaching staff's ears.

"My focus is just how good can I be at decision-making," McCown said. "Just holding myself to a high standard, where it never puts us in a bad situation and the defense is always playing with favorable fields. That's what I hope people see as we move into the season."

Manziel was the polar opposite as a college star at Texas A&M. His free-wheeling made him the most popular college football player in the country, earned him a Heisman Trophy in 2013, and made him a Round 1 pick. It also proved to be easy for NFL defenses to capitalize on; he threw zero touchdowns, two interceptions, and fumbled once while making just two starts.

McCown was no great shakes in 2014 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was in a back-and-forth struggle with Mike Glennon for the job of quarterbacking a two-win team, but his lights-out showing in Chicago the year earlier give him more credibility than Manziel, who was in rehab this offseason.
