Rusev's injury continues to remain a serious issue in the WWE and it has changed the company's plans for its weekend shows.
According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, Rusev was pulled from this weekend's live events in North Carolina. The Bulgarian Brute was scheduled to battle John Cena in Steel Cage Matches, but he is now being replaced by Kane.
Rusev injured himself at the SmackDown tapings this Tuesday during a match with Ryback. The Super Athlete hurt his leg during the contest, leading to it getting cut short.
Rusev was then spotted by fans after the show with a cast on and sitting in a wheelchair while holding crutches.
WWE.com later confirmed that he injured his leg and noted they would update on his status for the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view and WWE Network as soon as possible.
Rusev is set to battle Ryback, R-Truth, King Barrett, Sheamus and Dolph Ziggler in an Elimination Chamber Match this Sunday from the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, TX, but his status remains up in the air following the ailment.
If the mighty Russian can't go, it is expected that he'll be replaced in the bout by Bray Wyatt, who currently doesn't have a match for Sunday despite having a feud with Ryback.
If Rusev misses significant time, it could have ramifications on his current storyline with his former valet Lana.
The two have been building toward a split for a long time and it finally came to a head after she quit for him during his United States Championship I Quit Match with Cena earlier this month at Payback.
The next night on Monday Night RAW, Rusev kicked the Ravishing Russian out of the ring and she ended up kissing Dolph Ziggler, leading to a new feud for the Bulgarian Brute.
Rusev then attempted to apologize to Lana on the flagship show this past week, but he then asked her to say she was wrong before she told him off and left the ring, marking the end of their relationship.
Rusev's feud with The Showoff was slated to be an added backdrop to the Chamber Match, but now that his injury may keep him out of the bout, it remains to be seen what will become of the storyline.
Things aren't looking good for the status of the mighty Russian for Elimination Chamber.
