The NFL handed out some pretty harsh punishments to the New England Patriots as a result of the Deflategate scandal, giving the team a huge fine, making them forfeit draft picks, and suspending star quarterback Tom Brady. The team is not appealing their punishment, but Brady is appealing his suspension.

While the punishments are some of the harshest that the NFL has ever given out to a franchise (other than possibly what the Saints endured after their bounty scandal), some still think that New England got off easy, according to TMZ. Baltimore Ravens star Terrell Suggs came right out and said as much recently.

Fans may want to take Suggs's words with a grain of salt, as he has a well-known dislike for the Patriots and especially for Brady (he has gone so far as to even take shots at Tom's hair in the past), but when asked what he thought of the punishments, Suggs replied, "I don't know. That's not my job. I'm glad I don't got it ... but the last coach that got caught cheating got suspended for a whole year. So ..."

Suggs was referencing the Saints with his comments, as head coach Sean Payton received a one-year ban as part of the team's punishment.

Suggs may be on to something, however, and it could help explain why New England -- who has historically been willing to fight the NFL over similar matters -- meekly accepted their punishment. Perhaps owner Robert Kraft also agrees that the team was lucky not to be punished worse.
