Defensive tackle Ray McDonald, who was arrested for the third time on domestic violence charges on Monday, has been arrested for a fourth time-and his second time in three days-for violating a restraining order stemming from his Monday arrest.

McDonald is accused of having "physically assaulted the victim while she was holding a baby," and it was his third arrest involving domestic violence. He was promptly released by the Chicago Bears, who took a chance on him after the 49ers let him go.

"We believe in second chances, but when we signed Ray we were very clear what our expectations were if he was to remain a Bear," general manager Ryan Pace said. "He was not able to meet the standard and the decision was made to release him."

McDonald's mother, Labrina McDonald, is proclaiming her son's innocence in the face of a mounting history of violence toward women.

"[Ray's] personal driver witnessed everything that happened. He never touched her," McDonald's mother said. "Ray is never going to hit a woman. He may say some stuff to piss them off, he may kick them out of his house. But he'd never lay his hands on them. We didn't raise him that way."

McDonald, a pro since 2007, has 19.5 sacks and 154 tackles in his eight-year career. Labrina McDonald believes that her son's football career is over now though, especially with the backlash that has hit bigger NFL stars like Ray Rice and Greg Hardy, who both have fewer incidents on their rap sheets.

"He can move on from football, develop a business mindset like my wife and I have. He'll be okay. He's going to be successful. He comes from a great family. He just needs to get the hell out of Dodge and get his life together."
