Gennady "GGG" Golovkin has his eyes on unifying the middleweight division in boxing, and hopes to face Miguel Cotto for his WBC title soon, or Canelo Alvarez if he fights Cotto for it and wins.

He may not have to wait for Cotto or Alvarez to get his big break though, as long as he is willing to move up in weight. It's becoming more likely that Golovkin could get in the ring with former super middleweight champion Carl Froch, one of the most popular fighters in the U.K.

"I need the motivation, I need the fear factor and Golovkin brings that," Froch told BBC.

"If I decide to fight again, Golovkin's an opponent I'd definitely like. But it's a very big if because one of my options is to retire."

Froch, 37, is 33-2-0 with 24 knockouts, and his last loss came in 2011 vs. Andre Ward, arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in boxing. Although Golovkin campaigns at a weight class eight pounds lighter than Froch, and has said he has the ability to make weight at 154 pounds, Froch's promoter Eddie Hearn is wary of the matchup.

"If you're going to fight unmotivated, given the way he fights, you're going to get hurt," Hearn said earlier this month. "I don't think anyone would like to see that."

Hearn believes Froch will hang up his gloves and retire because he doesn't have any financial need to get back in the ring.

"I think we might have reached the end of the road for Carl," Hearn said. "The WBA have stripped him and it's not unexpected. We were expecting it because you can't just sit on belts. It's fair enough because he's got no fight planned and no fight scheduled.

"As time passes I think it's increasingly unlikely that Froch will ever fight again. Now it feels like it could be the right time [to retire]."

Golovkin defeated Willie Monroe Jr. on May 16 to improve his perfect record to 33-0-0 with 30 knockouts. The TKO win was Golovkin's 20th straight knockout victory.
