If Matthew Stafford is insulted, just imagine how Drew Brees feels.

CSNBayArea.com is reporting that new San Francisco 49ers free-agent acquisition Reggie Bush is gushing about quarterback Colin Kaepernick and the chemistry the two are developing during offseason workouts.

In the process, Bush may have inadvertently insulted a future Hall of Fame quarterback in the New Orleans Saints' Brees.

"So far I like what I've seen out of Kaepernick, and I've been around a number of quarterbacks now. His work ethic ranks at the top," said Bush, who won a Super Bowl behind Brees in the 2009 season, to CSNBayArea.com.

No excuses for Colin Kaepernick with free-agent acquisitions Reggie Bush and Torrey Smith?

"That's something that really excites me from a guy in his position, with the pressure on his shoulders, and all the things that come along with being a starting quarterback," Bush continued about Kaepernick. " ... He's a leader on the football field, verbally, and running plays and stuff like that. I'm really excited to play with him, and obviously he has a tremendous amount of upside."

Kaepernick's offseason work with Kurt Warner and quarterbacks coach Dennis Gile is well-documented. Part of his development included throwing shorter passes with more touch, including passes out of the backfield to running backs.

The 49ers acquired Bush, who played the last two seasons with the Detroit Lions and Stafford, to add the passing game element out of the backfield that the team lacked with Frank Gore as its lead running back.

The 49ers expect the offense to improve now that Kaepernick has both Bush and free-agent deep threat Torrey Smith from the Baltimore Ravens. He teams up with fellow former Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin.

If Kaepernick's work ethic is any predetermination of the 49ers offense's success next season, the team should bounce back from its 8-8 season.

"I'm just getting to know Kaepernick, but from what I've seen since Day 1, since I stepped foot in this facility, he's been the hardest working guy on the team," Bush said. "He's the first guy on the field, he's the last guy off the practice field. He's one of the last ones out of the weight room, he's putting in extra work and overtime."
