Less than a week after apparently burying the hatchet to the point of her ex-NBA husband gifting her with a $5 million lump sum payout, Siohvaughn Wade and her one-time high school sweetheart are embroiled in yet another court battle, according to The Chicago Sun-Times.
The newspaper reports Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade filed an emergency motion in Miami late last week demanding his former spouse submit to a psychological evaluation or lose the rights to any future visits with their two young sons.
The couple was divorced in 2007 according to news reports and, following an assortment of bitter court proceedings, Wade was granted sole custody of their children in 2011. In his latest filing, Wade even uses his ex’s erratic behavior over the course of their five-day settlement talks against her.
Following the fourth day of proceedings, Siohvaughn Wade camped outside the Daley Center where hearings were being held in Chicago and paced up and down the streets in 90-plus degree temperatures carrying placards claiming she was “homeless” and had been abandoned by Wade.
Attorneys for Wade later told the court he pays his ex at least $25,000 in monthly alimony, as well as pays the mortgage for her home and expenses for at least four cars she owns.
“Funches-Wade’s statements, behavior, and her demeanor in court reflect that she is presently lost, angry and desperate,” the filing made by Wade reads. “Her behavior is not in the children’s best interests...D.T. Wade requests that this Court immediately suspend S.L.’s timesharing...pending the results of a psychological evaluation of S.L.”
“This is Mr. Wade’s ongoing pattern of behavior. I have noticed that after I speak out publicly and say what Dwyane has done to me, my children...Mr. Wade responds by running into court and asking the judge to terminate my visitation with my children in an effort to stop me from seeing my children anymore,” Funches-Wade told The Chicago Sun-Times.
Wade’s attorneys acknowledge the boys were to be dropped off to their mother earlier in the week, but told the Sun-Times that after the Daley Plaza incident, Wade decided not to.
After four days of haggling between the couple’s attorneys, Funches-Wade on Thursday moved to file an Unlawful Visitation Interference report with the Dolton Police Department, accusing Wade of violating a custody judgment that stipulates each of them is to “have equal parenting time with the children in the summer in alternating two-week blocks of time.”
Her attorneys add she plans to be in court on Tuesday demanding that Wade turn over the children, as well as seeking sanctions against the three-time NBA champion.
Funches-Wade was arrested last year on misdemeanor charges of attempted child abduction, unlawful visitation interference and obstruction of a peace officer after an incident related to visitation. According to the Sun-Times, all the charges except obstruction of a peace officer were dismissed, and she faces a court date in September.
The newspaper also reported that over the course of the entire proceedings, Funches-Wade has severed ties with at least 12 different attorneys. Wade is now dating actress Gabrielle Union.
