Amir Khan has a fight coming up on May 29 vs. Chris Algieri, but more attention is being paid to a potential bout down the line vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. Ramadan won't be an obstacle for Khan this year, and it doesn't appear a Manny Pacquiao rematch will be either.

Pacquiao is going to be sidelined until 2016 after surgery, and Mayweather's former trainer, Roger Mayweather, said Khan could be Mayweather's opponent in September.

"I guess Floyd's gonna have to go somewhere else with Pacquiao out until 2016. I don't know who he's going to fight, but he's going to have to fight somebody. He can fight Amir Khan. That's a fight for him, I can't say no to that fight," Roger Mayweather said.

Amir Khan is a talented fighter whose career has experienced severe turbulence. He has been knocked out twice, by Breidis Prescott in 2008 and Danny Garcia in 2012. He lost twice in 2012, also falling to Lamont Peterson; the loss to Peterson was highly controversial however, since it happened in Peterson's hometown and Khan was deducted two points for shoving.

Khan has rebounded from those back-to-back losses in 2012 by ripping off four straight wins, the last two in a new weight class. Khan's move to welterweight was questioned because of his questionable chin, but instead he has looked stronger at 147 pounds. He has also fought smarter with new trainer Virgil Hunter, taking less risks and routing Luis Collazo and Devon Alexander in his first two bouts at welterweight.

Chris Algieri would advise match makers to wait until after May 29 to book Khan, though. Algieri said he will be somewhat of a mystery to most, who have only seen him fight twice. He also thinks his own change in trainers-he's hired John David Jackson-will make a big difference.

"A lot of people only saw my last two fights, and to tell you the truth, neither one of those fights defined me," Algieri said.

"The Ruslan fight, I had a damaged eye in the first round. I didn't really get to show my style. The Pacquiao fight wasn't my style. These guys don't really know who's going to show up. Now that I'm working with John David Jackson, there are things he's cultivating that we think are going to be pretty surprising."
