Carlos Gonzalez Finger Injury: Colorado Rockies Outfielder Leaves Game After Aggravating Finger

Rockies All-Star outfielder Carlos Gonzalez left the game against the Marlins prior to hitting in the fourth inning on Thursday after aggravating his already-sprained right middle finger in a previous at-bat.

Gonzalez, who is tied for the National League lead with 26 homers, aggravated the finger on a swing during his first time at the plate. Gonzalez was facing Miami right-hander Nathan Eovald and eventually struck out. Gonzalez remained in the game defensively until his next turn to bat came in the fourth inning.

First baseman Jordan Pacheco took Gonzalez's place in the lineup and Michael Cuddyer moved to right field while Charlie Blackmon shifted to left following his departure.

Gonzalez, who made his second consecutive all-star appearance this season, also leads the NL with a .598 slugging percentage and has 67 RBIs and a .298 average.

Gonzalez originally hurt his finger in Arizona prior to the All-Star break. The injury kept him from taking part in the Home Run Derby, however he did appear in the All-Star game itself.

The Denver Post reported over the weekend that his finger was bothering him and that he's been taping his middle and ring fingers together when he bats. He's also taking anti-inflammatories to bout the soreness.

The Rockies have been in an offensive funk and are 5-5 in their last 10 games with a 49-53 overall record. They sit in third place in the NL West and five games behind the suddenly hot first-place Los Angeles Dodgers.

Gonzalez is listed as day-to-day.
