New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has been suspended for the first four games of 2015 after Ted Wells decided it was "more probable than not" that he knew of Patriots staffers deflating game balls to suit his preference. Brady plans on appealing, but recent comments by former AFC East QB A.J. Feeley aren't going to help Brady's case in the court of public opinion.
"Prior to Tommy and Peyton Manning going to the league and saying, "Let us doctor our balls," we used to all play with the same balls,' Feeley said. "He's getting his own balls thrown in on offense," Feeley said. "That was an issue to me at the time. We saw it then."
Feeley said this happened in 2004, two years before the NFL allowed teams to use their own balls on offense. He's getting his own balls thrown in on offense. That was an issue to me at the time. We saw it then," Feeley said.
Brady and the Patriots aren't accepting their Deflategate punishments quietly. Brady's agent Don Yee has lashed out at the Wells Report, claimed total innocence on Brady's behalf, and accused the NFL of setting Brady up for the fall.
"The discipline is ridiculous and has no legitimate basis. In my opinion, this outcome was pre-determined; there was no fairness in the Wells investigation whatsoever. There is no evidence that Tom directed footballs be set at pressures below the allowable limits. In fact, the evidence shows Tom clearly emphasized that footballs be set at pressures within the rules. Tom also cooperated with the investigation and answered every question presented to him."
