Tonight at 8:05 p.m. ET, the New York Mets (20-12) and Chicago Cubs (16-15) play the second contest of a four-game series live from Wrigley Field in Chicago.

New York has won two of its last three contests as it continues a seven-game road trip while Chicago continues a seven-match homestand and snapped a two-game skid last time out.

Noah Syndergaard (3-0, 1.82 ERA in Triple-A Las Vegas) mans the mound for the Mets in his Major League Baseball debut while the Cubs counter with Jake Arrieta and he is 3-3 with a 3.41 ERA thus far this season.

New York and Chicago have had some rough campaigns over the last few years, but there is plenty of optimism this season partly due to the Mets' ample young arms and the Cubs' depth with young position players.

Syndergaard, 22, is ranked No. 11 on MLB.com's top prospects list while Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant, 23, is ranked second.

The Mets are excited to see what Syndergaard has at the big league level.

"We're all excited to see him because we all hope he pitches good," Mets manager Terry Collins said, according to MLB.com. "But we know what he can do. We've seen him in spring training. We know what kind of stuff he possesses. Now, how can you use it to get big league hitters out? I've spent enough time around Noah Syndergaard. I'm pretty impressed with the makeup. I think he's made huge strides from last year. So I think he's ready."

The Cubs defeated the Mets 4-3 in the opener of this series Monday night in a game where two of the Cubs stars were on display as Bryant and first baseman Anthony Rizzo hit back-to-back homers on two straight pitches.

New York also showed pop in two straight at-bats as first baseman Lucas Duda and shortstop Wilmer Flores both went yard in consecutive plate appearances, but the team failed to mount a comeback.

Rizzo is third in the National League with a .442 on-base percentage and fifth with a 1.035 slugging percentage while outfielder Dexter Fowler is fifth in the NL with eight stolen bases.

Mets outfielder Curtis Granderson is tied for fourth in the NL with 20 walks while Jeurys Familia ranks tops in the league with 13 saves.

New York enters play in first place in the NL East, 2.5 games ahead of the second place Washington Nationals while Chicago sits in second, six games behind the division-leading St. Louis Cardinals.

Some of baseball's youngest stars are on full display when the Mets and Cubs square off in Syndergaard's MLB debut live tonight from Wrigley Field in Chicago
