Embattled New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady received support from an unusual source over his Deflategate scandal.

Larry Brown Sports posted a tweet from mercurial San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who weighed in on the seriousness of the crime of which Brady is being accused - directing two Patriots equipment personnel to let air out of the footballs he uses past the minimum pounds per square inch accepted.

Kaepernick joined New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie -- per USA TODAY Sports' For the Win -- as prominent people not affiliated with the Patriots to throw their support for Brady in the face of the Wells report that concluded that the quarterback at the very least knew that equipment personnel John Jastremski and Jim McNally were deflating the footballs beyond the legal limit.

The New York Daily News is reporting that Brady will receive a suspension from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell next week.

"The feeling is that the Wells Report supplied Goodell with enough ammunition to suspend Brady both for breaking the rules by ordering the deflation of footballs and by not cooperating with the investigation when he refused to turn over his cell phone to Wells' investigators," the Daily News reported.

Larry Brown Sports speculated that it's Brady's denials of wrongdoing that are going to come back to haunt him.

"Kaepernick captures a similar sentiment to that shared by many," the Larry Brown Sports article read. "Most people recognize he's an awesome quarterback regardless. But it's not so much about whether or not the air pressure of the footballs helped Brady; it's that he lied that bothers most.

"What did you expect him to do? Tell everyone prior to the Super Bowl that he cheated? Yeah, like that was happening. He should have just asked the league to drop the PSI minimum to 11.5 or 12 and they would have complied. That's where he really messed up."

Which begs the unanswerable question: Had Brady come clean when asked about deflating footballs originally, would the NFL have suspended him for the Super Bowl? If so, then Brady absolutely did the right thing and deny the allegations.

No one believes Deflategate will strip the Patriots of their Super Bowl XLIX trophy. And Kaepernick is absolutely right in that footballs being underinflated have been the cause for Brady delivering four Super Bowl victories.

But with spygate also in the Patriots' checkered past, Brady may be the sacrificial lamb.
