It had been whispered about all off-season, and it finally came to fruition. Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson announced that he would be seeking a transfer for the 2015 season, his last on the NCAA level.

As a graduate student-athlete, Golson is free to transfer pretty much anywhere in the country and start right away. Having his pick of the landscape was presumably more attractive than merely fighting to keep his job against rising sophomore Malik Zaire in South Bend.

Les Miles and the LSU Tigers have long been rumored to be the leading destination for Golson. Fellow SEC schools Alabama and South Carolina (the latter being Golson’s home state) are also potential suitors. Florida State doesn’t have a presumptive starter following Jameis Winston’s entry into the NFL draft. And Sports Illustrated also listed Houston and Texas as two fringe possibilities, and The Big Lead mentions a potential move to the Pac 12 as well. In other words, he's going to have a lot of options.

Wherever Golson ends up, he’ll have to learn to limit his turnovers if he wants to make one more run to a national title game. He took the Irish to one in January 2013, but was benched late in the 2014 season after throwing 14 interceptions and losing eight fumbles over the course of the year.
