Suspended Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun will no longer be the spokesman for the Kwik Trip convenience store chain according to reports.
Braun was the face of Kwik Trip for four years but after Braun was suspended Monday for the remaining 65 games of the Major League Baseball season in connection to a Miami biogenesis clinic believed to be linked to PED's, Kwik Trip pulled the plug on the endorsement.
Kwik Trip, a chain of over 400 stores located in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa, didn't take long to act after Braun's suspension came down on Monday and the outfielder didn't appeal.
Gary Gonczy, the company's director of marketing and advertising told ESPN.com on Tuesday that Braun will no longer be used as the brand's spokesperson. Gonczy stated that Braun will no longer be in any radio or TV commercials for Kwik Trip as he had been the last four years.
It is unclear if Braun will lose any other endorsements now that the news of his connection to the Biogenesis clinic in Miami has passed. Braun is the first player to fall for his connection to the clinic and it is believed up to a dozen other players could face a similar fate. It is unclear eactly what the MLB found, but with a suspension this great without a failing test it would appear as though the MLB has enough compelling evidence.
Kwik Trip nixed plans to run a Ryan Braun Luncheon promotion where the winning entrant would be able to bring one guest to to Ryan Braun's Graffito restaurant in Milwaukee. The promotion was pulled just 11 days before the winner was set to be announced.
It remains to be seen if other companies Braun is affiliated with, including Nike, will also pull out of their endorsement contracts now that Braun is connected to PED's.
"As I have acknowledged in the past, I am not perfect," Braun said after the news broke Monday, according to multiple reports. "I realize now that I have made some mistakes. I am willing to accept the consequences of those actions. This situation has taken a toll on me and my entire family, and it ... has been a distraction to my teammates and the Brewers organization."
