If it's any consolation to Tiger Woods, Lindsey Vonn isn't handling their breakup any better than he is.

People Magazine is reporting that the 30-year-old Vonn is having difficulty with the end of her three-year relationship with Woods, despite displaying an upbeat demeanor in public appearances.

"She had work commitments and had to put her best face on but, of course, she's really bummed," a friend of the Olympic skier told People. "It's really hard. The decision to break up wasn't an easy one and it's hard for both of them right now," the source says. "Lindsey is hurting - she loves him and that doesn't just go away."

Woods told reporters before the start of The Players Championship this week in Florida that he also was having trouble coming to terms with the breakup that the couple announced separately on Monday.

The breakup also came on the nine-year anniversary of the death of Earl Woods, Tiger's father, which has added to Woods' distraction.

"This three-day stretch is very tough," Woods said, according to USA TODAY Sports' For the Win. "I haven't slept. And with what happened Sunday it's been brutal."

Vonn's friend told People that their relationship blossomed when both were sidelined with injuries and that as soon as both completed their rehab, their schedules took a toll.

"It was much easier to see each other when they were both injured, but now they're healthy and have to travel so much, it got too hard," the friend told People. "But never say never. If there's a time when their schedules aren't so insane and they can spend more than three weeks a year in the same place, who knows, they could even rekindle things. There's a lot of love there."

The timing of the announcement did seem a bit odd, considering that Vonn recently had gone on the talk show circuit, including an appearance on "Late Night With Seth Meyers," where she talked about her relationship with Woods.
