The first day of The Players Championship came to a close on Thursday, with Charley Hoffman, Kevin Na, David Hearn and Hideki Matsuyama all grabbing a share of the lead.

As many as six players are one stroke back, tied for fifth. Below is a recap of the first day's events (via PGA Tour).

What They're Saying

Charley Hoffman: "Not that I don't have expectations for myself [now], but I wouldn't say I've failed. I've been pretty successful out here for 10 years."

Billy Horschel: "I'm comfortable with hitting the tee shots, what they call for, and hitting iron shots into the greens. And I've seen this golf course in every type of wind, from no wind to the hardest wind coming from every direction."

David Hearn: "Growing up in this area, he [Brent Everson] knows this type of grass and how these greens sort of break. You know, that gives you a little bit of confidence when you get over those putts that it's going to do what you're seeing."
