Tonight at 7:07 p.m. the Toronto Blue Jays (45-53) will try to recover from a Monday night shellacking at the hands of the red hot Los Angeles Dodgers (51-47) in Rogers Centre, Toronto. Game 2 of the three-game set can be live streamed here; Dodgers fans can listen to the game on 570 Fox Sports LA, while Blue Jays fans can hear the action on SN590.
The Dodgers were without centerfielder Matt Kemp last night, but that didn't stop them from piling up 14 runs. Kemp injured his ankle on a slide into home plate two nights ago, and will miss the rest of this series. Manager Don Mattingly was initially confident Kemp would return quickly, but is now sounding a different tune.
"I'm probably not feeling as good about it as I did yesterday," Mattingly said. "It could go the wrong direction. Either this thing's going to get (better) and we'll know pretty quickly or it's going to be a little more severe."
Kemp has already been on the disabled list twice this season; making matters more frustrating, the slide occurred in the ninth inning of a blowout win in which Kemp was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run.
Tonight Chris Capuano (3-6, 4.63 ERA) will take the mound for L.A. Even though he's no shutdown starter, the potent Dodgers lineup figures to back him up.
"We have a deep lineup," first baseman Adrian Gonzalez said. "If you can just stay within the zone, it'll be really tough on the opposing pitcher."
Despite missing Kemp, shortstop Hanley Ramirez is more than capable of replacing his production these days. In his last 30 games Ramirez has batted .430 with nine home runs and 28 RBI. He will be the top priority for Blue Jays starter Todd Redmond (1-1, 4.32 ERA).
