The Miami Dolphins' pursuit of La'el Collins is widely known. After going undrafted at the 2015 NFL Draft, the LSU offensive tackle met with Buffalo Bills coach Rex Ryan (via NFL.com) on Monday. Several Dolphins players and former LSU teammates upped the ante by meeting with him on Tuesday.
No Dolphins employees made the trip to Baton Rouge.
Currently working to clear his name in a police investigation in Louisiana, Collins met with the Baton Rouge police as part of the investigation into the murder of Brittany Mills—this despite not being a suspect in the case.
Collins' lawyer, Jim Boren spoke on his behalf following the meeting.
"It went fine," Boren said. "We answered all their questions. La'el is not going to make any comments. I'm not going to have any comments. The investigation is going to continue."
"La'el is now going to start making an effort to start getting his football career back on track."
Should he successfully clear his name, Collins will be able to sign a three-year contract as an undrafted free agent; however, Miami and Buffalo aren't the only teams in the mix. According to Jordan Raanan of NJ.com, the New York Giants are now in the mix for the prospective first-round pick.
Per the report, the team can't send any officials to meet with Collins on campus until May 9.
Vice president of player evaluation Marc Ross touted Collins before the draft, but refused to lead into temptation. "We thought about La'El the whole draft because he was sitting up there," Ross said on Saturday night. "But we were gonna pass on that."
The Giants selected tackle Ereck Flowers with their first round pick, but Collins will help fill the role of guard for a depleted offensive line.
