Rory McIlroy's love for football—the kind you actually play with your feet, not under center—is no secret. His friendship with One Direction star Niall Horan is no secret, either. On May 20, both worlds will collide.

The Players Championship Preview, Predictions and Tee Times

The current world No. 1 will play alongside former Manchester United stars Paul Scholes and Phil Neville in the BMW PGA Championship Celebrity Pro-Am at Wentworth Club later this month. The iconic stars will be joined by Horan, who caddied for McIlroy at the pre-Masters Par Three contest in April.

Neville shared his excitement with the European Tour's Official website.

"I played in the BMW Celebrity Pro-Am last year and it's a great day," Neville said. "We're going to have a lot of fun with Paul, Rory and Niall. Hopefully, we can play some pretty decent golf too. I've heard there's a great line-up of celebrities, sportsmen and leading golfers this year, so the pressure will be on."

McIlroy shared the same sentiment.

"Niall and I had a good fun together in the Par 3 contest at the Masters and I'm looking forward to seeing him again at Wentworth, without the boiler suit," McIlroy said jokingly. "It should be a great fourball with Phil and Paul playing too, and it should appeal to a wide range of fans."

"The Celebrity Pro-Am is always one of the most enjoyable days of the year and I'm sure the guys will all have a great time."

McIlroy and the trio of stars will tee off the European Tour's flagship event at 8 a.m. local time.
