The offensively challenged New York Yankees (52-46) are in for a tough test tonight at 7:00 p.m. when they go up against the Texas Rangers (54-44) and their ace Yu Darvish who is off the disabled list. The game can be live streamed here, while Yankees fans can listen to WCBS 880 AM and Rangers fans can tune in to 103.3 ESPN.
Darvish (8-4, 3.02 ERA) has been electric in his second year in the MLB, striking out an absurd 11.8 batter per game, and posting a 1.047 WHIP. He is facing a depleted lineup that has been racked by injuries and failed to hit even one home run in Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox.
He was placed on the disabled list because of a back strain, but says he is healthy and the time off was a major help. "I think (the break) was good for me," Darvish said." I was able to rest and do everything I had to do." Returning against the Yankees is probably a good idea-in his career against the Bronx Bombers Darvish is 1-0 with a 1.98 ERA.
The Yankees, meanwhile, will be without Alex Rodriguez for the foreseeable future thanks to a quadriceps strain. He was expected to make his 2013 debut tonight against the Rangers, whose fans tend to mercilessly boo him because of the massive contract he signed with Texas without bringing the team much success.
"He's going to be out for a while," manager Joe Girardi said. "So we'll just deal with it and continue to play."
Darvish will be opposing Yankees starter Ivan Nova (4-3, 3.63 ERA) tonight, whom the Yanks need big things from to cover for the abysmal offense.
"Getting him back on track was really important to us," Girardi said. "We've seen him pitch really well. He got out of whack the second half (of 2012) and struggled a little bit at the beginning of the year, but he's back on track."
