Robert Griffin III Pronounces Self Ready For Training Camp, Cleared By Doctors

Just six months after major reconstructive knee surgery, Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has been cleared to practice for the start of training camp.

In a Monday morning Tweet, RG III pronounced “doctors cleared me to practice. Coach is going to ease me in. Thank you for your support & See you in Richmond.”

Just how much Griffin III will be allowed to do, particularly early on, remains to be seen. Coach Mike Shanahan has often been criticized for his overuse of his star quarterback, including in last season’s playoff loss to Seattle where he was initially injured.

Fellow second year signal-caller Kirk Cousins figures to get most of the early work in preseason, which commences later this week at the team’s new facility in nearby Richmond.

The 2011 Heisman Trophy winner completed 66 percent of his passes and threw for 3,200 yards and 20 touchdowns in his rookie season with just five interceptions.

Earlier this month, the 23-year-old wed longtime girlfriend Rebecca Liddicoat in a lavish Colorado ceremony. Before several hundred guests that included Redskins owner Dan Snyder, Griffin III wore an all-white suit replete with white shirt and tie while Liddicoat was likewise draped in white and her bridesmaids were dressed in pink cocktail dresses.
