Jaromir Jagr, New Jersey Devils Agree To One Year Contract, Ilya Kovalchuk Quickly Replaces After Leaving For KHL SKA St. Petersburg

The New Jersey Devils and Jaromir Jagr have agreed to terms on a one year contract, according to sources.

While the deal is not yet official and the contents of the deal are yet to be disclosed, Pierre LeBrun of ESPN stated it's a done deal, likely to be announced on Tuesday.

It was reported on Friday that the 41-year-old Jagr was in New Jersey looking at the Devils and their facilities as a possible destination.

Jagr is on the market looking for a new team after going goal-less in the Stanley Cup Finals as the Boston Bruins fell to the Chicago Blackhawks in six games. The Devils could be a great fit having recently lost Ilya Kovalchuk and David Clarkson. Kovalchuk decided to opt out of his remaining contract and play in Russia's KHL, while Clarkson, who scored 30 goals two seasons ago, signed a seven-year pact with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

While Jagr is getting up there in age, few people are as good at controlling the puck than the Czech Republic native. Jagr has shown he still has the ability to score goals and would be a great fit to a goal-deprived Devils team. Jagr scored 16 goals and had 19 assists for 35 points last season during the 48 game lockout-shortened season where Jagr split time between the Dallas Stars and the Bruins. Though he went without a goal in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, he mounted ten assists in 22 playoff games this season while playing right wing on the Bruins second line.

Jagr  has played in 1,391 career games and has totaled 681 goals and 1,007 assists. Jagr's career total of 1,688 points ranks eight on the NHL's all-time scorers list.
