A New York judge has cleared hip hop stars Chris Brown and Drake of all wrongdoing stemming from a New York City nightclub brawl both were at the center of last summer.
Entertainment Enterprises, owners of Greenhouse nightclub, was seeking at least $16 million in damages from the two, according to TMZ. Greenhouse is adjacent to W.I.P. nightclub, the venue where the two and their entourages engaged in a fist-flying, bottle-throwing melee last June.
The suit alleged that, based on the incident and its proximity to their establishment, EE’s reputation took a massive hit causing owners to suffer great financial loss.
Drake countered with a suit of his own, arguing that the aftermath was not his problem because he can’t control how the media chose to report the incident. The judge agreed, tossing the case and ruling that neither he nor Brown had any duty to the club to behave, particularly because their brawl didn’t actually take place on Geenhouse’s property.
The judge also stipulated that while unfortunate nightclub brawls are not uncommon and EE is not able to sue each a fight happens.
For Brown, the ruling hardly ends all his legal headaches. Just last a week prosecutors in California moved to revoke his probation stemming from his conviction for beating Rihanna after he allegedly was involved in a hit-and-run accident. If he found guilty of the violation, he could face as much as four years behind bars.
