What They're Saying
American Pharoah and Dortmund trainer Bob Baffert (via USA Today): "As long as there's been a winner [from that gate]. I didn't want to carry that with me. But it takes a good horse to win it. I mean the break is going to be so important. He [Dortmund] gets going. He's quick, and so he'll be right there in the mix."
American Pharoah jockey Victor Espinoza: "I definitely didn't want to be the one horse, that's for sure. mean, I don't think it matters, but just to be safe. I feel more comfortable to be on the outside.''
Carpe Diem trainer Todd Pletcher (via Fox Sports): "It's a race I would love to win every year, but it doesn't encompass our whole year. If you'd have said that at the age of 47 I'd have won a Kentucky Derby, I would've told you a long time ago that I wouldn't think that that could happen.''
