The first day of the 2015 WGC-Cadillac Match Play came to a close on Wednesday, with top seeds Henrik Stenson (No. 3), Justin Rose (No. 6), Adam Scott (No. 9) and Matt Kuchar (No. 14) failing to win.

Under a new format, however, all four still have the opportunity to advance to the knockout rounds. Below is a recap of the first day’s events (via PGA Tour).

Jason Day: “Obviously, I need to go out there and win the next two. Whatever happens, happens. If I sneak through, I sneak through. If not, then it's my own fault for losing.”

Webb Simpson: “You couldn’t have written it better. I chunked the first one, but we erased the video, so the one that we have was good. But it was amazing being back.”

Marc Leishman: “I think sometimes you get into a mindset where you take [golf] too seriously, like it's a life and death situation . And I've just been through a real one of those, so I know that golf isn't life and death anymore. If I don't pull a shot off, it doesn't matter.”

Rory McIlroy: “Mindset going into [Thursday], have to win, you have to win every match. No point in thinking you can't win matches and progress here.”
