Some players have plenty of talent to succeed in the professional ranks of their sport, but they never quite have the mental side of things figured out. In sadder cases, this is less about understanding the nuances of the sport than it is about behaving like a decent human being away from the field or court.

Kevin Durant To Finally Play For Good Coach?

When everyone thinks of an athlete that has fallen from grace in the worst way possible, they most likely think of Aaron Hernandez, and rightly so. He was on track to be a multiple-time Pro Bowler, and he committed at least one brutal crime. Now, Javaris Crittenton has something in common with Hernandez, according to Fox Sports.

Crittenton showed plenty of promise coming out of college, but he never quite found his way in the NBA. Then his career was entirely derailed when he brought handguns into the Washington Wizards' locker room. From there, Crittenton's life spiraled out of control, and it culminated on Wednesday, when he pled guilty to the 2011 shooting death of a mother of four.

Coach Spo On The Hot Seat?

Crittenton accepted a 23-year prison sentence as part of a plea deal in the case.

The woman he shot, whose name was Julian Jones, was not Crittenton's intended target. He had been aiming for the man that he claims robbed him several days prior, according to prosecutors.

Crittenton did make a tearful apology to the Jones family on Wednesday, calling the event a horrible accident and saying that he wished he could trade places with Jones.
