The San Antonio Spurs finally may shed their "boring" reputation this summer.

Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the Spurs intend to make a play for Portland Trail Blazers free agent LaMarcus Aldridge over the summer after they give Kawhi Leonard a max deal.

"In a perfect scenario, the Spurs have a full understanding of the futures of Duncan, Ginobili and Danny Green when they walk into a 12:01 a.m. ET meeting on July 1 with Leonard and his agent, Brian Elfus, in Los Angeles," Yahoo! Sports reported. "The Spurs will offer Leonard a full maximum contract extension, get a commitment and turn themselves toward prying Aldridge back to his Texas roots."

Aldridge is a Dallas native who played one year at the University of Texas.

Tim Duncan sues former adviser over $20 million in lost investments

The caveat in the Spurs' reported scenario is that the team does not yet know what Duncan and Ginobili want to do.

"The Spurs can't be sure how they'll proceed on July 1 until they know Duncan's and Ginobili's plans," Yahoo! Sports reported. "Whatever they decide, the possibility of pursuing Aldridge on the recruiting trail could offer the Spurs the chance to do the only thing that they've never done in the NBA: Lure an All-Star free agent in his prime, beat New York and Los Angeles somewhere besides the basketball court."

Yahoo! Sports added that Aldridge's moods change constantly. It reported that he's been trying to portray his desire to test the free-agent market after the season. CBSSports.com reported that Aldridge said last summer that he intended to re-sign with Portland in hopes of becoming the "best Blazer of all time."

If the Spurs get any kind of read that Aldridge wants to join them, then their offseason becomes interesting if both Duncan and Ginobili want to remain with the team.

It's doubtful San Antonio would have much money left for Aldridge if it gives Leonard a max deal and still signs two of the three cornerstones of its dynasty (along with Tony Parker). Would the Spurs actually try to nudge Ginobili toward retirement?

It seems unfathomable that the Spurs would do anything other than let Duncan decide whether he want to continue playing, but what do the Spurs do if that jeopardizes their chance to sign Aldridge and raise their chances of extending their dynasty?
