Brooklyn Nets Coach Jason Kidd Set To Plead Guilty To DWI, Faces League Suspension

New Brooklyn Nets head coach Jason Kidd is expected to plead guilty to driving while intoxicated last summer, likdly netting him a league suspension before coaching his first game.

Kidd, who was charged just days after inking a one year deal with the Knicks that proved to be the last season of his Hall of Fame-worthy, 19-year career, has also agreed with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office to make school appearances and speak with young drivers about the perils of drinking and driving, a move the New York Daily News reports could lead to his own charges ultimately being cleared.

Kidd, 40, is expected to formally enter his plea today and will almost certainly be suspended by the NBA as a result of it. Traditionally, league officials have rendered suspensions of up to three games for players found guilty of such infractions.

“He will say that the drinks he had that night rendered him intoxicated,” his attorney, Edward Burke Jr., told The News. “What Jason is going to do is stand up and own this.”

According to The News, the school appearances and speeches Kidd delivers will more than likely be taped and featured as public-service announcements across the area.
